Early life cricketing career
Mithali Raj used to accompany her elder brother Mithun Raj to his cricket coaching class at St. John’s Academy. While other boys practiced, Coach Jyoti Prasad would play cricket with the 6-yeat old Mithali Raj. Jyoti Prasad recognized Mithali’s natural cricketing talent. She suggested her father start concentrating on Mithali’s cricket career and introduced him to Sampath Kumar, a coach at the National Institute of Sports.

Mithali Raj made her test debut on January 14th-2002 against England at Lucknow, and her T20I debut on August 05th-2006 against England. She was out on a duck in her debut test match.
At 19, she broke Karen Rolten’s record of highest individual Test score of 209 by scoring 214 runs against England in her third test match on August 17th-2002 at County Ground, Taunton. The record has since been surpassed by Kiran Baluch of Pakistan, who scored 242 runs against the West Indies in March 2004.
