Jofra Archer is back in auction of IPL-2022:

England pacer Jofra Archer has registered for the upcoming mega auction IPL-2022, after initially staying from the event due to his ongoing injury issues. He is back in the auction and will hope to play in the IPL. He has not played any competitive cricket since July 2021 and is unlikely to return to action for the next few months. He missed two big tournaments, Ashes and the T20 World Cup and didn’t feature in the home series against India either.

But, he has decided to enter the auction which the BCCI informed the franchises even as the shortlisted players list have been announced. As many as 590 players have been shortlisted for the auction from the 1214 players that registered initially. Meanwhile, it has been understood that Jofra Archer will be available to play from the IPL-2023 season and won’t be featuring in the IPL-2022. He has listed himself at the highest base price at Rs.2 crore.

Jofra Archer – About:

Jofra Chioke Archer is a Barbadian-born English Cricketer representing England and Sussex. He is a right-arm fast bowler who made his international debut for England in May-2019. He made his test debut against Australia in the Ashes series-2019. In April-2020, he was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

He was signed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2018 IPL auction for a price of Rs.7.20 crore. Since then, he has represented the team from the pink city on 35 occasions, picking up 46 wickets at an average of 21.32 and an economy rate of 7.13 runs per over. He has also scored 195 runs in this competition.

Jofra Archer – Elbow Injury:

Jofra Archer injury first came into the limelight in August last year with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) ruling the pacer out due to recurrence of an elbow injury. The elbow surgery which Archer underwent in December last year will reportedly keep him out of action till the summer of this year.

Due to an elbow injury, he missed the 2021 edition of the IPL. Explaining the player’s current situation, the ECB then released a statement that said, “Archer’s elbow issue has deteriorated and made it increasingly challenging for him to maintain performance levels.”

Jofra Archer to be available from IPL-2023:

Jofra Archer is certain to miss the IPL-2022 season due to ongoing injury issues and could make a comeback only next year. It is impossible to put him under the hammer for IPL-2022 due to injury. However, he is far from making a full recovery. But, it has since been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the pacer has enlisted him-self for the auction.

According to Cricbuzz, this decision comes after confirmation from the ECB that Archer will be available from IPL-2023 onwards. The BCCI informed the franchises, “The ECB has registered Archer for the auction with a view to potential participation in 2023 and 2024, as due to his current injury it is unlikely that he can participate in IPL 2022”.

The loss of Jofra Archer really affected the Rajasthan Royals team who struggled to register wins as their bowling attack failed to make much of an impact.

IPL-2022 auction – 44 new additions to the initial list:

Meanwhile, as many as 44 new players have been added to the initial list including Jofra Archer. He is the only notable inclusion to the list from England while five players from Australia have been added. Usman Khawaja is one interesting addition. He scored centuries in each innings of the Ashes Test on his comeback to the Australian side. Khawaja had not enrolled in the initial registered list but now has kept a base price of Rs.1.5 crore.

Among the other countries, who are part of the new additions list are one from Afghanistan, five from Australia, 11 from India, two from Ireland, six from New Zealand, two from Scotland, four from Sri Lanka and West Indies each, and seven from South Africa.
