LAN vs YOR English T20 Blast
Emirates Old Trafford,Manchester
Thursday, September 17, 2020 11:05 PM
Two potentially strong teams face-off in this encounter with the business end of the tournament very much on. Lancashire were unbeaten till their last game when they got thumped by the Notts while the Yorks were humbled by Leicestershire in a high-scoring game.
This is a more relevant game for the hosts as another defeat could start to put pressure on the team with respect to the knockout race. Lancashire are relatively better placed but even they wouldn’t want to be lax, as things can turn around drastically in this format of the game. The Lancs have a more rounded outfit although the batting does over-rely on the top order. Yorkshire’s squad has been hampered by losing key players to national duties but they do have a couple of them back in the ranks, and will hope to rise up as a side.
Lancs have had no issues with player availability, and have settled in nicely. With the Headingley surface likely to be on the drier side, there could be a lot of spin and changes of pace on view from both sides, and on such decks, top-order batting often becomes pivotal as the older ball isn’t easy to score off.
Lancashire vs Yorkshire Dream11 Preview
Joe Root’s absence will be felt, given how consistent and solid he was in the games that he featured in. But Dawid Malan is set to play and given that the southpaw is arguably the better T20 player, and also in form, Yorkshire’s top order will be bolstered.
He should take the number three spot with skipper David Willey expected to float around depending on the match situation. The rest of the batting should be similar to the previous game, and the Yorks will be desperate for Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who has been off-colour, to strike form.
Adam Lyth has been in top form and he along with Malan will be the key men in this fixture while Kohler-Cadmore never far away from a big score. Yorkshire’s bowling was under-cooked in their previous game where they failed to defend 190-plus but those were tougher bowler conditions and Willey’s boys are unlikely to fret a lot about that defeat.
They should should feel more comfortable in home conditions and despite missing Adil Rashid due to his England duties, the attack does look efficient even if not threatening. Batsmen will have to shoulder the extra responsibility, particularly batting first and the bowling can then do their thing.

Like many other teams this season, Lancashire also felt the heat of Nottinghamshire’s chasing prowess in the last game but the former also have themselves to blame for that.
Steven Croft’s scratchy innings where he faced 38 balls and failed to go at run-a-ball hurt the team’s momentum big time and that was the difference between 190-200 and the 167 that they eventually ended up with. It was never going to be enough on a belter against the Notts.
At Headingley, the conditions should be more even for the bowlers and that should calm Lancashire a bit. Their top-order has led the way so far and the batting has looked reasonably solid thus far. Having players of varying dimensions has been a plus, as they can score on different kinds of surfaces. Maybe not the batting unit that can be decisive on flat-decks but on more balanced pitches, they can certainly set up above-par totals. The bowling had an off-day against the Notts but it has largely been a well-oiled unit so far.

LAN vs YOR 73rd Match Pitch Report:
One of England’s most traditional venues in Tests, Headingley has managed to stay relevant even in limited-overs cricket with its unique brand of sporting surfaces that often throw up thrilling games.
Forecast is for a rain-free day with temperatures in the early 20s with occasional breaks of sun and clouds. Pitches at Headingley are usually dry and a bit on the slower side. Batting should be good too but the batsmen need to be smarter about their shot-selection.
