“Everything will continue as per schedule”: Ganguly

Despite a spike in COVID-19 cases, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that the IPL will plow ahead as per schedule. He feels that a last-minute shift will convince be a logistical nightmare.

Mumbai reported 9,857 fresh cases and 21 fatalities on Monday taking the general tally to 4,62,302 cases and 11,797 deaths.

Mumbai is hosting four IPL teams. they’re Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals (RR). While CSK and DC are training at Wankhede Stadium, Punjab Kings and RR are training at Cricket Club of India (CCI).

Very few cities in India is understood for its strong cricketing background, Mumbai has three top training facilities- Brabourne Stadium, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Thane’s Daddoji Kondev Stadium.

Each IPL team comprises nearly 40 members, including players and training staffs. just in case if BCCI moves to another city, they’re going to need to arrange nearly 200 rooms for the four teams. Also, a minimum of 30 rooms are going to be required for umpires and other staffs. Moreover, the assembly crew would wish somewhere around 100 rooms.

just in case of movement, the organisers got to manage chartered flights to travel from Mumbai. it’ll be expensive and hard to organise at the last-minute.

Travelling would expose players to security personnel and breach the bio-secure bubble. A change in plan would mean a fresh isolation protocol. As per BCCI, all the players got to undergo 7-day mandatory quarantine to place things in situ

MS Dhoni-led CSK and Rishabh Pant’s DC will bully off within the opening match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday (April 10). The IPL 2021 opener are going to be played between Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and defending champions Mumbai Indians in Chennai on April 9 (Friday).
